Floor stacking looks simple until the pallet, load and stack begin working as one unit. A pallet that performs well under a single floor load may behave differently when several loaded units are stacked. Buyers should therefore check the base design, load contact points and handling route before choosing a model.
This guide explains how to compare stackable plastic pallets without treating one pallet structure as suitable for every load.
Start with the actual stacking condition
Ask what will sit on the pallet, how the load is packaged and where the upper pallet will make contact. Cartons, bags, drums and rigid containers distribute weight in different ways. A stated static load does not by itself describe a loaded stacking arrangement.
Provide the supplier with the loaded weight, package footprint, number of stack levels and expected storage time. If the load can shift or settle, include that information as well. These details are more useful than asking for a generic heavy-duty pallet.
Compare six-runner and double-faced bases
A six-runner pallet has bottom runners in both directions. This creates a broad support pattern for floor storage and can help spread contact beneath a packaged load. The 1200×1000 six-runner plastic pallet is one example buyers can compare when the load footprint matches that size.
A double-faced pallet has a deck on both the top and bottom. Its lower face can provide wide contact during stacking, but the handling method still matters. Double-faced pallets should not be assumed to work with every pallet jack. Confirm the entry path and equipment before selection.

Do not confuse static load with stack load
Static load normally describes a pallet resting on a flat surface. In a loaded stack, the upper pallet transfers force through its feet, runners or lower deck into the goods below. Concentrated contact can matter as much as the total weight.
For this reason, do not calculate a safe stack by dividing one published load figure by the weight of each unit. Ask for confirmation using the actual package, pallet orientation and number of levels.
Check forklift access before final selection
The pallet has to move before and after stacking. Record the forklift fork width, fork thickness, entry direction and turning space. Four-way entry can improve operating flexibility, but labels such as four-way do not replace a dimensional check.
If pallet jacks are part of the route, state that separately. A structure suited to forklift handling may not offer a suitable wheel path for a hand pallet truck.
Match the pallet footprint to the load
The package should sit within a stable footprint. Excessive overhang can damage goods and make the stack less predictable. A pallet much larger than the load may waste container and warehouse space, while a pallet that is too small can leave the load unsupported.
For larger footprints, the 1400×1200 double-faced grid pallet provides a different size and base arrangement for comparison. Selection should be based on the real cargo dimensions rather than the pallet name alone.

Review the full handling route
A pallet chosen for floor stacking may also pass through production, cold storage, a transport vehicle or a warehouse buffer. Temperature, cleaning, impact frequency and load restraint can change the specification. If racking or automated equipment appears anywhere in the route, assess that stage separately rather than extending the floor-stacking decision to it.
